The Lille goalkeeper, whose 100th cap party was ruined by Nigeria’s 1-0 loss to Uganda on Wednesday in Uyo, withdrew from the Sunday encounter following an aggravated back injury.
Team media officer, Toyin Ibitoye, told The PUNCH that Enyeama would not be travelling with the team when they depart for South Africa on Friday.
“Enyeama will play no part in the match due to the injury; he’ll not be travelling with the team,” Ibitoye said.
“He suffered a relapse of the injury in the game against Uganda and the coaches wanted to substitute him during the game but thought otherwise and allowed him to finish it.”
Ibitoye said Warri Wolves goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi, has been called up as replacement for Enyeama. Akpeyi joined the camp on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Nigeria Football Federation president Amaju Pinnick has expressed his disappointment to the players following the loss to Uganda as he told them to show more commitment or stay away from the team.
Pinnick, accompanied by his executive committee members, challenged the players to be at their best and have the best attitude when they represent Nigeria.
“Today, we are supposed to be celebrating with Vincent Enyeama on his 100th cap, but your poor performance has ruined the party and Nigerians are very angry,” Pinnick said.
“When next you receive an invitation letter to come represent Nigeria, you have a critical decision to make: accept it only if you believe you are in the frame of mind to give your everything, or decline if you do not feel that way.
“The camp of the national team would no longer welcome average players or good players with poor attitude.”
