Imo State Police command has paraded the Senior Special Adviser (SSA) to the governor of Imo State on Security Affairs, Barrister Okey Okorocha over possession of unauthorized firearms. This is even while the police command has been warning every security agency not captured in the constitution to hand over their arms in the last six month….
Okorocha was arrested,
following a tip off that some top government functionaries were stock piling arms with the view of disrupting the general elections that are commencing tomorrow all over the nation, Nigeria, on the early hours of Friday by the operatives of State criminal Investigative department (ScId). Arms recovered in his Owerri residence, where it was carefully hidden according to the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO),Imo State command, ASP Andrew Enwerem were, 3 pump action automatic rifles, with 24 life cartridges, including, a Ken- wood Walkie-Talkie.
In the same development, the same police group also recorded another success, wherein four members of the Imo Security Network (ISN), who were on their duty post at Egbeada Housing Estate, in Owerri-North LGA, with 3 automatic pump action riffles with14 life cartridges were recovered from them. Those arrested and paraded were: Kelechi Onouha ‘M’, Chigozie Uzowuru ‘M’, Osita Obiakor ‘M’, and Aka Linus ‘M’ were arrested.
Enwerem, who briefed newsmen this morning, informed the public that they are ever ready for the elections and called on all Imo residents to come out and vote without any fear of intimidation, adding that police hierarchy has fully mobilized them for the elections, noting that over 6000 police officers have been deployed accordingly for the elections. He said that a total of 6 pomp action rifles and 38 cartridges so in the course of the pre- election date.
However, Okorocha while being questioned by newsmen, at the Police Headquarters, wondered why he should be arrested now, even while according to him, the security network set up by the Government of Owelle Rochas Okorocha of which he is supervising had been working together with the police to curb crime and other social vices in the state, adding that he had before now, returned most of the arms in his care, but was not aware that some the guns were left behind.
