Wike Accuses Amaechi Of Manufacturing Fake Visuals

Rivers state governor-elect, Nyesom Wike, has accused the outgoing governor of the state, Rotimi Amaechi, of engaging in the manufacture of fake visuals and audio in the Government House to mislead Nigerians on the state governorship election.

Thisday reports that Wike made the statement on April 15, 2015, speaking on “Focus Nigeria,” a political programme on Africa Independent Television.

The governor-elect noted that there was no way that the All Progessives Congress (APC) would have won the governorship election in the state because the party was not ready for it. According to him, the APC in the state worked desperately to disrupt the governorship election by engineering violence, however, people of the state remained focused.

The governor-elect recalled that on the election day Amaechi came to his family home to provoke his supporters. He also went to different wards in various local governments, breaking electoral laws.

Wike expressed his regret that the APC had formed the habit of using deception to discredit elections in communities where its members lost.

Wike noted that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) sitting governors lost elections in Benue, Bauchi, Kaduna, Niger, Jigawa and Plateau Sstates, but have chosen to respect the process. Amaechi in his turn has resorted to spreading falsehood with the help of his media associates/international observers.

“It would have been impossible for the APC to win an election in Rivers state. The people were committed to President Jonathan. On April 11, the people turned out in large numbers to express their anger over the defeat of the president.

“Amaechi’s claim that the president influenced the governorship election in the state was false. Does it mean that the president only wanted victory in Rivers state and did not care what happened in Benue, Jigawa, Kaduna, Niger, Plateau and Bauchi states? The victory of the PDP in Rivers state is a true reflection of the wishes of the people. The courts have been closed for over one year, the assembly is not functioning, pension has not been paid and there is an illegal deduction of workers’ salaries. The people want a new Rivers state,” he stressed.

Speaking on security during the election, Wike reminded Nigerians that a few days to the polls, Amaechi had announced that he was in charge of the police and the army, which he was going to use for the elections.

Wike also alleged that Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of zone 6, Tunde Ogunsakin, worked desperately to undermine security during the election.

“APC has created the false impression about violence in the state during the governorship election when in reality, the party unleashed violence on PDP members. However, the violence on PDP members was never reported because we have no control of the media,” Wike said.

Meanwile, Amaechi has described the victory of Wike in the just concluded governorship election in the state as daylight robbery. Moreover, he stressed that he would never accept the victory of the PDP.
